Note: The following information applies to the IS945.x Tablet with Windows on ARM .

Why can't I transfer my existing x64 image to the new tablet?

Processors "speak" different languages. A standard Windows image for Intel or AMD systems (x64) is not compatible with the modern ARM64 hardware in your new tablet.

What is the technical difference?

x64 (CISC-architecture ):
This is the classic standard from Intel and AMD. It is designed for maximum raw performance in desktop PCs, but it consumes a lot of power and generates significantly more heat.
ARM64 (RISC-architecture ):
This architecture is optimized for extreme efficiency. It enables significantly longer battery life, reduced heat generation, and instant-on functionality, similar to that of a smartphone.

Why isn't the Image-Transfer working?

An operating system image contains not only your data, but also the specific bootloader and kernel drivers for the hardware.

Different instructions:
An x64 processor interprets instructions very differently from an ARM processor. If you try to install an x64 image on an ARM tablet, the hardware simply cannot read the boot code—the system will not start.
Driver incompatibility:
All hardware drivers (graphics, Wi-Fi, touchscreen) in your old image are written for x64 chips. The ARM hardware requires native ARM64 drivers, which must be deeply integrated into the system.

Will my old programs still work?

Yes. Windows 11 has a highly efficient emulation layer. This means:

You can usually install your usual x86 and x64 applications (.exe) without any problems.
The operating system translates these commands "on the fly" in the background for the ARM processor.
Important: Only the operating system itself needs to be installed natively for ARM64 (which we have already done for you).

Summary

The tablet requires a version of Windows specifically compiled for ARM64 (in our case, the optimized IoT Enterprise LTSC). A standard image from an old laptop or PC is not hardware-compatible. However, you can easily transfer your data and most applications to the new system by performing a fresh installation or transferring the data.

Windows programms usually are able to install, but functionality can't be guaranteed 100%.
